YEAR TWO ANNOUNCED!
We are delighted to announce our YEAR TWO dates! We will be opening our doors for a second event the weekend of May 19-21st, 2017. Yes, this is a year away–but that gives us time to plan and make sure we have a fantastic set of guests, panels, and workshops for you.
In the meantime, we hope everyone is looking forward to IMATS NY! The Compleat Sculptor’s owner, Marc Fields, will be running materials demonstrations all day Saturday (April 9th) at the Makeup Museum. Stop by to get a preview of what CONstruct can do for you.

Announcing Artist’s Alley!
We’re thrilled to introduce our ARTIST’S ALLEY, featuring a mix of extremely talented 3D and 2D artists, including Dave Fox (Star Wars, Fantastic Four, X Men, Indiana Jones), Eli Livingston (Marvel, Fringe, SNL, HR Giger), Alex Heinke (McFarlane Toys, NECA), and MANY MORE!
Three New Guests
Three fantastic new guests have joined CONstruct: Fashion makeup artist and CHICStudios instructor Tim Pearson, who has worked with world-reknowned Makeup Artists such as Kabuki, James Kaliardos, and Charlotte Tilbury. His designer support includes Diane Von Furstenberg, Alexander McQueen, Bill Blass, Stella McCartney, Victoria Beckham, Tommy Hilfiger and dozens more. Tim has enjoyed several television experiences, such as the Bravo show Blood, Sweat, and Heels and PBS: The History Makers: An Evening with Ursula Burns, as well as working with Cirque Du Soleil: Totem, providing a progressive body painting experience for the attendees of the NYC premiere.
Sculptor, creator, toy designer, and professional maker Brett Klisch joins! He has sculpted and directed toy lines for Hasbro, Kid robot, and McFarlane toys. His custom haunted houses have been erected from Madison square garden in NYC to many amusement parks nationwide and in countries such as Tokyo, England, and Australia. Currently he owns a manufacturing company and is the chair of the Creative Factor educational program at Toy Fair.
Finally, startup professional and marketer Felipe Gonzalez joins. College educated as an AD man, with deep interest in consumer psychology, he has got startups such as New York City’s very own Quirky.com to pick up on countless of his invention ideas. One to believe that a good product idea should be born from consumer insight, he has proven that with enough drive, and the will to generate tons of ideas, getting products to market is nothing more than a numbers game. He will be assisting to run a great class on marketing, invention, and kickstarting.

Announcing Four New Guests
CONstruct is thrilled to announce four amazing new guests on our roster! SFX makeup artist and instructor Mike Melillo of Gargantua Effects (affectionately known as “Sensei Mike”) has over three decates of practical experience in all facets of the industry, from design through application. He’s worked in local theater, the haunt industry, film and TV, including the creation of the only practical creature ever used on the History Channel’s “Monsterquest” series and is currently in preproduction of the Chris Eilenstine creature fantasy film “Shadows of the Forest.” Melillo teaches special effects makeup courses at Robert Fiance Makeup Academy and Ducret School of Art.
FaceOff Season 4 veteran, MUD graduate, and IMATS Student Makeup Competition vet Meagan Hester is the founder and owner of The FXBeauty Lab, where she teaches workshops on the weekends to makeup enthusiasts. She has a thriving career in television, where her clients include Viacom, NBC, ABC, FOX, and E!, and has worked with some amazing talent, form Paul Rudd to Katy Perry, SHAQ, and Sting.
Designer, inventor, and instructor Peter T. Ragonetti of PTR Design, LLC focuses on providing concept design and manufacturing support for product and technology companies, and develops and designs for the product licensing market. Ragonetti co-founded both Pettag+ and FLEKS3D, a revolutionary design for an improved 3D Printing Build-Plate, and currently is a visiting Instructor at the Pratt Institute where he teaches Solidworks and Three Dimensional Design. Ragonetti has also done many client-based independent projects. In his 10 years of professional design, he has been responsible for the design and development of several hundred of products and is also named in close to hundred patents.
Last but not least we’re thrilled to introduce director Chris Reed, an architect of compelling contemporary myths. Reed has honed his craft over years of working in film and advertising, and has been featured in leading publications like Dazed and Confused, and worked with brand such as Red Bull.

Announcing Guests Steve Siegelbaum and Melinda Prom
SFX artist and owner of GutRot Effects, Steve Siegelbaum, joins CONstruct as a guest! With almost 15 years of experience ranging from theatrical scare attractions to television and film special makeup effects, his work has been seen on AMC’s The Walking Dead upfront events, #1 rated haunts like The Forest of Fear, and in such feature films as Sole Proprietor and OLD 37. A veteran of zombie runs with high volume, Steve has airbrushed upwards of 1400 zombies per weekend and now heads the Makeup FX department and the year-round NYZ Apocalypse.
Face and body paint, special effects, and makeup artist Melinda Prom has joined as a guest! Guest Jennifer Suarez and Schedule Update!
We’re delighted to announce a great new guest and SFX teacher will be joining CONstruct: Jennifer Suarez! This 16-year SFX vet has worked on numerous TV, Ads and Film projects including Law&Order: Criminal Intent, Fuse Fangoria Chainsaw Awards, Partnership for Drug Free America Ad Campaign, The Morning Show, Good Morning America, VH1 and numerous indie films including Vincent D’Onofrio’s Writer/Director debut film Don’t Go in The Woods (featured selection of the NYC Horror Movie Festival) and the Oscar winning 2009 short film The New Tenants. Ms. Suarez has taught hundreds of students through the years and her grounded, down-to-earth vibe is what makes her a true professional.

New Guests Stella Sensel & Anthony Giordano
Two new fantastic makeup pros have joined CONstruct as guests! We’re delighted that New Jersey native and 17-year Hollywood, Disney, and Broadway vet Anthony Giordano will be a guest of CONstruct. His special effects fabrication and makeup artistry have been seen on movies such as The Last Samarai and Spiderman 2, and Broadway productions such as Young Frankenstein, Tarzan and Shrek the Musical. In addition to make-up artistry, Mr. Giordano has worked for Disney as a set and costume fabricator and has created training suits for NASA, is an organizer of the International Makeup Trade Show (IMATS) makeup convention. For the past 6 years, Giordano has created and operated the top haunted attraction in New Jersey, State Scare.
Face Off Season 7 contestant and NYC-based makeup artist Stella Sensel also joins as a guest! She specializes in special effect prosthetics, including sculpture, foam latex, silicone, gelatin, and pros-aid transfers, as well as beauty and natural make-up application for film and high-definition television. Before delving into the world of makeup, Stella spent over ten years in the Halloween industry where her love for the grisly and gruesome has grown, and where she picked up many tricks of the trade. She is an expert in the Halloween retail industry and has extensive experience in Halloween product development.
Announcing Gary Tunnicliffe
What’s 2015 without classic horror, gore, and monsters? Gary J. Tunnicliffe, a 25-year vet of the SFX industry, and the founder of “Two Hours in the Dark Inc” joins CONstruct for our May 2015 event! Tunnicliffe first starting work on the prosthetics for the stage productions of ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ then working at the world famous Pinewood studios in England for three years before making the move to Los Angeles. His most recent work can be found in Gone Girl, The Wedding Ringer, 22 Jump Street, and the upcoming movies ‘Burying the Ex’, ‘Home Invasion’ and ‘When the Bough Breaks.’
The English born artist has designed and created make up effects, creatures, illlusions, robot suits, weapons and props on over seventy feature films working with such actors as Gerard Butler, Johnny Depp, Nicolas Cage, John Travolta and Robert DeNiro, with Directors David Fincher, Renny Harlin, Tim Burton, Joe Dante, Patrick Lussier and Wes Craven and on such genre franchises as Hellraiser, Halloween, Candyman, Mimic, Prophecy, Pulse, Children of the Corn, Exorcist, Wishmaster, Dracula, Scream, Blade and Scary Movie.
We’re delighted to have a true master of horror on board!
Robert Kurtzman Joins
We are delighted to announce that Robert Kurtzman, an icon in the world of special make-up, creature effects, and genre filmmaking will be joining us for our inaugural event! He is the director of genre hits like Wishmaster, and the creator of the modern horror classic From Dusk Till Dawn and his 30 year career includes credits like Predator, Evil Dead II, The Cell, Spawn, The Green Mile, Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, and television series like Hercules and Xena.
His latest work can be seen on the big screen right now in Kevin Smith’s TUSK, now available on iTunes. From the mouth of Kevin Smith himself: “We kept the visage of the walrus suit under wraps for over a year; time for Tusk-maker Kurtzman to take his bows for such amazing (and simultaneously atrocious) work! All my thanks, Bob: you are rubber magic… Which sounds dirtier than I meant it.”
This behind-the-scenes photo of Kurtzman working on the walrus suit has been kept under wraps for more than a year; TIME’s review called out Kurtzman’s makeup specially in this great review, and his work has been remarked on as excellent, fantastic, and remarkable in reviews from IGN, efilmcritic (“The contributions from makeup designer Robert Kurtzman are equally impressive–for his main effect, he has been asked to produced something that will move audiences from laughter to nausea to sympathy, sometimes at the sam time, and damned if he doesn’t pull it off.”) and many more.
We are delighted to welcome the owner of Schell Sculptor Studio, renowned SFX expert Jordu Schell as a Guest of Honor for our inaugural show! Schell is an award-winning sculptor, mask-maker, and creature designer, and among his many credits are films like Avatar (2009), Cabin in the Woods (2011), Cloverfield (2008), Blade: Trinity (2004), Hellboy (2004), Galaxy Quest (1999), Men in Black (1997), and Edward Scissorhands (1990), among others.
Joining him as guests are Emmy award-winning SFX artist Josh Turi, known for his work on Saturday Night Live as well as The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014), Men in Black 3 (2012) and Body of Lies (2008); and world-known teacher of SFX Todd Debreceni, who has worked on a wide variety of titles from Hollywood to Broadway, including Captain Phillips (2013), Contact (1997), Die Hard 2 (1990), Shrek: The Musical, Spamalot, Young Frankenstein, and Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.
Joining seasoned pros is self-taught prop-maker and founder of Punished Props Bill Doran, a self-titled intergalactic space gun trader, who brings his mold-making and prop-making expertise; a rising Youtube star, he teaches how-to classes and panels across the States, and selectively accepts commissions like a wearable Kaijudo Gauntlet given away to the winners of the video game’s tournament.
